Spark Studio
Primary through 1st or 2nd year of Elementary
Ages 5 to 7.
The purpose of Spark is
- to foster academic, physical and emotional independence through developmentally appropriate works inspired by Maria Montessori,
- to spark curiosity through hands on experiences and play-based challenges, and
- to equip learners for the next steps of their journey by applying the Hero’s Journey philosophy.
Our learning design focuses on the following:
Character: Develop and practice a sense of right and wrong with a foundation in learning to be a good friend.
Core Skills: Exploration of the natural world, Strong Reading Foundation, develop a real-world math sense through Montessori materials and play.
Play: Have fun, encourage cooperation, conflict resolution, creativity and critical thinking skills through loose parts and open-ended outdoor play every day.
This is a pivotal age for our children. We provide a safe and open environment which allows our Spark students to make choices and to identify and express emotions. We also support their curiosity as they begin to navigate their day to day learning. They also move daily through our dedicated studio spaces geared towards math, science, geography, art, writing, building and design, creative play, language and adventure play outdoors. This provides them the critical foundation that ensures they will continue to develop the essential skills needed to contribute to growing both as an individual and peer. This is the foundation of 21st century learning and something you cannot find in traditional education.
